Description
I encountered this Egyptian goose together with its partner at the Jagerplas in Zaandam. The goose was very vocal and alert, which gave me the impression that it was the male. Telling the sexes apart in Egyptian geese is difficult, as males and females look almost identical. Males are generally a bit larger and more robust, which further strengthened my assumption that the male was keeping watch over his mate.
The pair calmly walked toward the lake and lingered at the water’s edge, offering a wonderful opportunity for photographs. Shortly afterward, they slipped into the water. When I came across them again a little later, it felt as if they were greeting me once more.
