This week’s video was originally planned as exclusive content, but after being sick I decided to turn it into the weekly episode. Join me on an unexpected wildlife-filled walk through the Oostknollendam nature reserve. The polder landscape is full of life: ducks, geese, sheep, goats, moorhens, smew, cormorants, and many other birds. I even passed the unique village-maintained cemetery—one of the area’s hidden gems. A perfect location for nature lovers, walkers, and photographers.

What a hike again. Nothing in life ever goes as planned, and this episode really shows that. But when you embrace this aspect, you’re often pleasantly surprised.

Today, I walked in Zandvoort, around the bird lake. On the trail, I encountered some unusual fellow hikers—not on two legs, but on four, with ears and a tail. And not just one, but an entire herd! The cherry on top was seeing the ponies drink at the lake.

What an experience. I felt deeply connected to nature and the animals. Along the way, I also came across many bird species, including a robin and a falcon.

This time I’m hiking the Duin en Bosch Estate Trail, a 6-kilometer route that takes about 1.5 hours to complete. The highlight of the walk was definitely a woodpecker I spotted along the way!

In this video, Isa and I explore the beautiful forests and dunes of Bergen — the place where I grew up.
We wandered through quiet woods, spotted countless mushrooms, dodged falling acorns, and met some tiny forest residents — from ant colonies and ladybugs to giant dragonflies! 🐜🍄🐞

Our trail led us past two serene lakes, offered stunning views of the dunes, and even took us by the artificial ski slope where I spent much of my childhood. ⛷️💚
We also came across a historic stone marker from around 1770, which once replaced older wooden posts — such a cool piece of local history! 🪨✨

Isa brought her “nature backpack,” collecting acorns and pinecones that we’ll turn into garlands and backpack charms — soon available on our website:

🦭🌲 Wilde pony’s, zeehonden en overal paddenstoelen! 🍄🐎

Hoi!

Vandaag testte ik mijn gloednieuwe 60L Naturehike-rugzak 🎒 — en wat een hike werd het!
Onderweg kwam ik overal paddenstoelen tegen, zag ik een zeehond vechten met meeuwen om een vis 🐟, en ontmoette ik zelfs een groep wilde pony’s 🐴.

Weer een episch wandelavontuur in de pocket! 💪
Ik wandelde 4,5 uur en legde 17 km af door het schitterende PWN natuurgebied, een prachtig stuk natuur met duinen, bos én strand 🌊🌳🏖️.

Ga met me mee op een onvergetelijke solo-hike van 16 kilometer door de prachtige landschappen van IJmuiden en Nationaal Park Kennemerduinen.

Deze epische tocht voert je langs historische bunkers uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog, over brede zandstranden en diep de stille duinen in – vol met wilde dieren en bijzondere natuur.

Onderweg kwam ik oog in oog te staan met imposante Schotse Hooglanders, wilde Konikpaarden, kleurrijke vlinders en zelfs een libel.
De perfecte mix van geschiedenis, natuur en avontuur — allemaal gevangen in één hike.
